Extract from Pravsworld , about MJ

Got a mail from pravsworld about quotes of Micheal Jackson. I have been a fan of MJ if not a huge fan. The first time I came to know about MJ when I saw MJ's poster in my cousin's room way back in 1988. I was a 5 year old, and my cousin was in his early teens. He surely loved MJ's moves.
When I got this from pravsworld, I was very keep to put it up here:: so here it goes..

Michael Jackson Memorial

I was touched watching Michael Jackson Memorial yesterday.

As a kid, I remember hearing of this legend probably even before I saw him, hearing about his dance before I saw him dance, hearing about his music before I listened to it. When I saw him, when I watched his dance, when I listened to his music - he was undoubtedly an legend.

Michael Jackson - The King of Pop. His music will last forever.

Remembering Michael Jackson - here are his select quotes & videos. My tribute to this icon who moon-walked on this earth.

Michael Jackson Quotes:
“In a world filled with hate, we must still dare to hope. In a world filled with anger, we must still dare to comfort. In a world filled with despair, we must still dare to dream. And in a world filled with distrust, we must still dare to believe.” - Michael Jackson

“The meaning of life is contained in every single expression of life.” - Michael Jackson

“If you enter this world knowing you are loved and you leave this world knowing the same, then everything that happens in between can be dealt with.” - Michael Jackson

“But I will never stop helping and loving people the way Jesus said to.” - Michael Jackson

“I’m a black American, I am proud of my race. I am proud of who I am. I have a lot of pride and dignity. I’m happy to be alive, I’m happy to be who I am.” - Michael Jackson

“People write negatives things, cause they feel that’s what sells. Good news to them, doesn’t sell.” - Michael Jackson

“I’m never pleased with anything, I’m a perfectionist, it’s part of who I am.” - Michael Jackson

“I’m just like anyone. I cut and I bleed. And I embarrass easily.” - Michael Jackson

“When I see children, I see the face of God. That’s why I love them so much. That’s what I see.” - Michael Jackson

“You know, let’s put it this way, if all the people in Hollywood who have had plastic surgery, if they went on vacation, there wouldn’t be a person left in town.” - Michael Jackson

Learnings from a DOG - extract from pravsworld

What A Dog Teaches You

A dog teaches us a lot of things, but we never seem to take notice. These are some of the lessons you might learn…

  • When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
  • Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
  • Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
  • When it’s in your best interest, practice obedience.
  • Let others know when they’ve invaded your territory.
  • Take naps and stretch before rising.
  • Run romp and play daily.
  • Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
  • Avoid biting, when a simple growl will do.
  • On warm days stop to lie on your back on the grass. On hot days drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree.
  • When you’re happy dance around and wag your entire body.
  • No matter how often you’re scolded don’t buy into the guilt thing and pout. Run right back and make friends.
  • Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
  • Eat with gusto and enthusiasm, stop when you have had enough.
  • Be loyal.
  • Never pretend to be something you’re not.
  • If what you want lies buried dig until you find it.
  • When someone is having a bad day be silent, sit close by… and nuzzle them gently.

Baby snake spotted in front of my house

It was 23 June 2009. The time was evening 7 :30pm, I was about to enter my house through the front gate, immediately I saw a creature just in front of the gate. Yes it was a baby snake.

Recently I had encounters with earthworms, leeches, centipedes etc etc. Some of them I have mistaken to be a snake. Incidentally I saw an insect the previous Saturday and I thought it to be a snake. I touched it with a small stick, it moved in such a way that, it made me feel, boy is this a snake.

When my father saw it, he just laughed at me saying its a earthworm or any other insect but not a snake. After all snake babies tend to grow a little bigger.
But this very day, what I saw was a real snake baby. I was about 20 cms away from stepping on to it. I realized immediately and backed off another 30 cms. But still I was very close. I could clearly see its raised hood. I think and I hope its a rat snake. I was surprised to see the baby snake take its stance even after seeing me. It did not move an inch. I wanted to show the same to my parents. I called them from outside.

But they did not hear, moreover I did not want to call neighbors instead and also there are some pathetic (loser) assholes who tend to throw stones, infact stone slabs on snakes as soon as they spot one of them. Yes there are such morons near my place. Both educated and uneducated losers, who do not have basic sense.

So I moved towards the gate, trying to make sound using the knob of the gate so that my parents come out. I knew the snake cant hear sounds and only can sense vibrations.
As I made cranking sounds with the gate knob, the snake tried to move into the bushes. And recollect the snake moves very fast, but this one was hesitant to go, it was almost saying, " dont go public , you better fuck off ". But somehow I had to make the snake go back to bushes, since my brother or anyone can step on to it. I would not like this to happen, nor those morons to spot one of them. So I was quite happy to see it back to bushes.

One thing I am still scared is that it still moves around one of those bushes close to my gate. And recently my small cousins 5-10 yrs age, were playing around the same bushes with their cricket ball. The ball went into the bushes and we managed to get it. But my mother and aunt were consistently scolding to forget the ball, since there could be such creatures, I infact ignored the call and ventured into the partenium filled empty site and got the ball. May be I survived to see just another day.

Learnings:
Take your parents or elders advice seriously.
Do not try to be a HERO, unless its in front of the camera.
Respect Snakes.

PS:: If it was an adult snake and if it had given me a surprise, I even may have pissed in my pants, who knows .

Here s saluting a legend.

French Open this year was a goood one. I enjoyed it every bit of it.

I thought Federer played so so well, in the semi final match, I felt like bowing down and saluting the person. His energy, enthusiasm and love for the game is just uncomparable. I remember sending an SMS to my friend in the middle of the night, saying I want to bow down to Federer.

Way to go Mr Federer. Hats off, for your performance.

Loong time since I have posted. My computer has had a major breakdown. I have no clues on what to do regarding it. I wanted to write about lots of stuffs. Some of the stuffs I have already forgotten.

Let me see, how can I go about it.

Good old memories

music @ dhingana.com

Incidentally I happened to listen to an awesome song, which brought me back, good old memories.

I have shared the song, which is close to 18 years old. I was 7 year old may be at that time.

I did get to watch the movie on a neighbor's VCR, at my grandmother's place. Incidentally it happened to be my summer holidays of the year 1991. Once in a while we used to get a VCR, and on such an occasion, many people of the family would sit and watch the movie.

Well, these days, everyday, I get to see, close to 5 different movies at the same time. But none of my family members accompany me. Even when many relatives come to my place, none of them are interested in watching a movie.

The same Golden moments are hard to come by again.

I still cherish those golden moments I spent @ my grandmother's place.

Do I give up what I love?

Sometimes, I just wonder, whether I have made a right decision not to pursue, higher education, just because, I am so happy doing coding. But looking at the current scenario, I wonder, should I have been better off, being a management guy ?

One reason, why I did not like to go in for an MBA, is because, I hate to attend meetings, and book conference rooms. I love to sit in some corner, and silent code and code till I get headache.

But after working for close to 4 years, I have slowly begun to realize the truth. There are very less opportunities to code from scratch. Moreover, coming home after work and doing some open source coding, seems to be quite difficult as of now.

Does this mean, I have to give up my love for learning new Microsoft technologies and dedicate my efforts towards becoming a Project Lead or Project Manager. I am in a real dilemma whether to give up what I really love.

Is there any way out? I am thinking. Coding open source in free time is definitely an option. But how long to code side projects, without hitting main stream.

Is there a way out.. God please show me a way out of this..

Speaking without delivering

Many times, I have found myself at the receiving end of criticism, regarding speaking a lot and doing a little. Yes, intentionally I do give a nice build up churning out ZERO output. It happens. But once in a while.

But what do I do, if, time and again I encounter people who just show this kind of caliber. Talking till the throat hurts and when it comes to output, they just provide nothing. Infact I have seen people who just love to talk and talk, and when its time to put them into actions, they hate to dig their hands into SHIT to make things happen. I had even once told a guy, " Why do you show off so much". But that is a way too long time back .

Can you guess the guy's reply " I am what I am " . True, after all, every person is unique. You cannot ask them to change, since it takes years of practice to just bluff around impressing everyone and escape without doing anything.

What if I encounter one such person? I just would not care, that is sticking to plain old basics. I believe in doing rather than speaking, though there are, but not many times, when I too begin to talk crap, without knowing whether its achievable or not. (But not many a times).

WORKHORSE or JACKASS

" Better be a workhorse rather than a jackass "

Well, this is one " One Liner ", I just churned out of nowhere. Most of my friends would know the meaning of this one liner. If you don't know, do write a comment with your email id, will explain it to you. But I wish not to post its meaning over here. [Courtesy : some unknown reasons :P]

Feedback on my last post

Today I received some feedback on my last post on the blog. The feedback was about my previous post on the " Lows of my trip ". One of my friend read the post and asked me, " How come you get wild sometimes ? ".

Hmmmm....(sigh).. Well I really do not know. After all I am also a human. I do get angry sometimes. There are times when my anger just shoots up, many other times my ego shoots up and rest of the time my attitude shoots up. If none of these shoot up, my comic ssense definitely kicks in.. :P (my brother calls this comic side of mine very very cheap, do I mind, not a single percent ).

Well if I am not wrong, most of the times, its my attitude which floats above the remaining two.

As of now, not sure, how to deal with anger. May be I need to count from 1 to 100 for my red hot temper to turn colorless (and may be odorless, smoke it !!!)

Well, regarding comments and criticisms, they are most welcome, anytime..

PS :: None of my cousins', read my blog. I can be rest assured, there is no way they are gonna find about the incidents written in this post. Even if they read my blog, I would have posted a lot more by that time, and for sure, they wont dig into each and every post to find about these two incidents..

Lows of my trip

> At one moment during the wedding, I came before the recording camera man. The camera man, literally touched my back (more like a pat). Immediately I got to know it was for me coming in between his shot. Moreover I saw his dirty expression. My temper rose almost 100 times, (coz I hate to be at the receiving end of such gimmicks amidst public). I could feel my hands waiting to beat the living hell out of someone(cameraman). But somehow I controlled myself from doing that, since I did not want to create a ruckus amidst dancing and partying people. I swallowed it partially, when the photographer apologized by saying " Sorry " for 5 times. But I did not accept his apology. I did not say anything to him, nor did I look into his eye. I just nodded my head and went away.

> At one more time, @ Hotel RamDev in Belgaum, I was filling water into my 2 litre mineral water bottle, using the jug / jar placed on the table, the waiter came and told " fill water from the tap over there " (in hindi), in kind of rude voice. This time, I did not notice it, but when I came out of the hotel, my brother reminded me that it was a kind of insult, how come ur silent.
My temper shot again this time to about 500 times, and I did not want to control it. I went back into the hotel, called the manager, pointed towards the waiter, called him and scolded him nicely till my temper came down. I was about to show my middle finger, but I felt it was kinda too much. So scolded the waiter till I got a soothing relief and came out, happily. I wanted to write a feedback form. But I preferred to give it back on the spot this time, coz I know where the feedback forms land up, ie in the nearest dustbins.

And the hotel was Ramdev, it seems to be a good hotel @ the entrance of Belgaum after some medical college. The food was kinda good, but the attitude of the waiter who served me lunch was pathetic. He deserves to be fired I feel. After shouting at him this is what I could have done least to vent out my anger against him.

Disclaimer:: This incident has happened in real on 17 May 2008. The hotel in picture and the location are all true. Nothing is fictious over here. This is the same hotel which comes up in teh 1972 movie Bombay to Goa. ( I feel)

And yes, I may be dumb(silent) at that very moment, but I do strike back with a lot of venom..

Highs of my trip

> Visited YellammanaGudda
Prayed a lot, great to be back @ YellammanaGudda, awesome feeling.
> Super cousins and relatives
My cousins and relatives made the wedding most memorable one. I can recollect continuously laughing for 20+ mins ending up with a chest pain and tears in my eyes.(literally, its like laugh till it hurts. )
> Awesome food
Some of the best food I had in recent times,
> Super snaps
Got some of the best shots (according to me)
> Gala time @ Gokak falls.
Had a great time @ Gokak Falls.
> Awesome ride along Belgaum - Dharwad highway.
Travelled at a speed of 140km amidst heavy rain, that too, with 9 people on board a Sumo Victa LX. One unforgettable ride. Belgaum to Dharwad in literally 1 hr. (60kms)
> Spoke to whole lot of people.
Well spoke to a lot of people also listened to them.
> Danced as though no one saw me.
Yes yes, like last year, this year too I danced to the tunes of a brass band. It was really awesome.

Thanks for a memorable trip

After coming from my cousin sister's wedding, and a 4 day off from my regular bullshit routine, I would like to thank a few people. Here it goes...

> Firstly loads of thanks going out to none other than GOD for keeping me alive and kicking.

> My cousin who not invited us for the wedding but also arranged for travel.

> My other cousins' and relatives who had come from far off places, whom I met after a year. Thanks guys for coming.

> Another bunch of my cousins' who had arranged for accommodation in a guest house and travel to Gokak and YellamannaGudda.

> My 5 cargo trousers, which I carried all the way for a 4 day function. They came in really handy.. They took lot of abuse from me.

> My American Tourister travel bag. Though it is huge, carrying(lifting) it was a little pain, but it held too much of luggage, my entire set of clothes, my father's as well, my 2 pairs of footwear. It also took a lot of abuse, being pushed on top of the carrier of vehicles. Though there were cuts in 2 or 3 places on the leather edge, rest of the travel bag seems to be rock solid.

> My Sony ion battery (and also my dsc h7 cam). This time, I had made sure, I charged it properly, and it too bore the brunt of my use, silently. I started using flash during day time, and that too in most of the photos. But still I did not run out of battery. Three cheers for making that super battery.

Time for everything

Phew, I had a rocking 4 day off-work, just to find myself in a situation, where I was actually having a ball. I took 2 days leave 14th and 15th May 2008, to attend my cousin sister's wedding, on 15th May @ Dharwad.

I ended up not only attending the wedding but doing a whole lot of things, most of it was not really anticipated. Like,

> Trip to YellammanaGudda.
> Traveling in luxury vehicles, free of cost.
> Spending 4 days, @ an AC room almost free.
> Laughing my heart out,
[ oh my gosh, there was a moment where I started complaining of chest pain after laughing for 20 min completely. I thought something was wrong with me. But I realized my cousin brother also complained of chest pain. It meant, the chest pain was because of continuous laughing infact laughing our heart out. ]
> Walking on a lonely road with no lights @ 10: 30 during night, just looking out for a meal, ending up with some super cool pictures as well as some cool food (rice, dal, sambar and whole lot, infact worth the 2.5 km walk we did during the night.)
> Dancing my heart out during the wedding.
> Meeting whole bunch of relatives, who had come all the way from Hubli, Dharwad, Belgaum, Pune, Mumbai. Yup.

I would like to thank god, for putting me thru this situation, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Feels so good, to be part of a wedding. Just love it.. !!!!!

Lemme post some pics of it..

Little Wonders - Rob Thomas

This song really peps me up. I never knew a few simple selected words could end up in such an awesome inspiration song. Yep, its true, I just love this song.. No second thoughts.

Cribbing

Generally I hate to write about cribbing. But I had a conversation where in my friend was cribbing about his work place, this so called recession and its effect on him. I would like to write about the strange situation in which he is in at the moment.

My friend incidentally happens to work for a neighboring IT company. First let me write some points about the recent recession.

> Managers tend keep an eagles' eye on the team-members performance.
> The so called friends (before recession) tend to outsmart each other,.
> People generally do not want to make mistakes, especially in their work.
> Individual work is preferred over team work. After all you need to separate the milkable cows from non-milkable ones. Also easy to fire individuals rather than entire team.

The situation my friend is in, is kind of a strange one. His team comprises of an individual (Lets call him A ), who is unsure about his role. He is either trying to demoralize the entire team to save his job, or he is trying to outshine the rest of the team members.

Assume my friend is given a piece of work, which he might take 2 weeks time to complete. But this particular individual " A ", tends to shout out loud in the meeting saying, this work can be done in 4 days.

This particular individual " A " after the meeting is done, is not even bothered to help, to complete the task in 4 days, he is only interested in his part of the work.

My friend's concern is during this time of recession, what will the manager feel about him. A task which can be done within 4 days, is being done in 2 weeks. Does the manager feel, is this guy, a non milkable cow. So my friend feels he is the one in the line of firing, just because of this so called individual " A ", who incidentally happens to pass sarcastic comments about others work and try to find fault in others work.

All I can say is I am quite lucky not to be in such a team.

Back to blogging

Over the past month, I have not been able to blog anything infact. There are loads of things which have happened over the last month, I also have learnt quite a lot of things.

Firstly I had problem with my computer, so could not blog anything.

I could have blogged from a cyber center, but as usual I am quite a bit lazy.

Secondly after working on a project for over an year now, I got released from the project. I did need a break, which I definitely got after this move.

Thirdly, I will be going to Dharawad, on May 14 to attend a marriage. So hoping to have a great time @ the marriage party.

Cheers..

Handling active criticism

You may be wondering, when you look at the last few posts of mine, that, Am I cribbing a lot??. I also removed one of the posts, thinking that, I was criticizing a lot. Hopefully I will write more about more myself and some of my experiences, acquaintances.

In one of my all time favorite books, there is a line saying, there is a solution to the aging problem. It is learning. Yes its true. Mark my words, its a brilliant line infact.

You can learn a whole lot of things.

> Work related.
> Professional life related
> Personal life related. etc etc.

You can also learn from a variety of sources
> Books.
> From people who are kind enough to share their thoughts and insights.
> From internet.
> Also from your critics.

In this post I would like to write, about handling active criticism. How do you react to it. Or you can rather say, how did I react to it??

Over the past few months, I have been lucky enough to be at the receiving end of some great criticism, advice @ workplace. But all was not quite well over the past few months.

Infact I hated criticism, I hated it, when people said, this could have been better. Why, why? I do not know, nor did I make any effort to analyze the whole thing. Things just whizzed away, I always kept running away from critics. I was indeed afraid of them.

Critics, were some of my friends, colleagues. Sometimes I would even lose my temper and angrily say, this is the only way I can do it. (How bad I feel, when I recollect that day, when I said this.)

Now after few months, things have changed. I am ready to listen and adapt as per even my friends advice. Its a remarkable change, I thought today, when all of a sudden I started to think about it.

When I tried to understand what really caused the change, I was shocked to learn that, when I was not so confident, not so well equipped with knowledge, on/about a particular task, I turned my backs on the advice or criticism recieved.

But once I found a better approach of doing things, I gained more confidence, I found myself listening to the advice of other people, started to debate on different ways to do things.

Yes, that is what I want to infer, the more you are confident about yourself, your approach, the more you can handle criticism. But also you need to be willing to work hard and be disciplined to be confident.(that is the catch point).

I would like to say sorry to all my friends who have been so kind to share their insights and advice, but inturn I turned my back to their advice, sometimes even raised my voice, in dis-agreement. Hope you have forgotten it guys. :)

Cheers.

Is it luck ?

Last month, I was reading a book, which is one of my all time favorites. I have read it many a times, thought lemme read it once more.

There is an interesting event mentioned in one of the chapters.

A woman meets a famous painter in a busy street. She greets him and asks him to sketch something for her. The painter immediately comes up with a sketch and hands it over to the lady.
He also tells her, its worth a million. The surprised lady immediately asks, worth a million?, it took only 30 seconds to draw that out, to which the painter replies, it took me 30 years, to draw it in 30 seconds.

Cute, very cute isn't it.

There are many such incidents where in I have repeatedly done the same task again and again to gain familiarity with it. But the real twist in tale comes here. What if we do not have the opportunity to try the second time.

Assume a programmer is trying to code a bit @ workplace. He fails first time, betters second time, but still fails and starts for the third time. But what if his first/second time failure is fatal? What if there is no second/third time chance for him, since he may have lost his job by then.

I feel here luck comes into picture.

You need to be lucky enough to find a proper place and your enthusiasm to try must not come down. Else, the case can be drastically different

Interest... How do I make myself interested??

Interest is a superb word. I have been been fascinated by this word, a lot more since I joined the software industry.

By the time, I realized I was interested in studies or not, I completed my schooling. I did not hate studies that much. I think right through my school days, I just studied and studied, never wondered whether I am really interested in studying the subjects or not. How bizarre, but actually its true. [I can write loads about this whole thing, but some other day.]

By the time, I realized I was interested in programming, I completed my engineering. Well, I was anyways interested in programming that is a different issue.

So I thought, before any task let me make myself interested in the task, and then try to approach it. [Assume: I have a book in front of me, let me make my mind to think that, the book is interesting.]

The result was a total flop.

My mind failed to accept thing as interesting. [Though I find coding very interesting, but I cant force myself. I may sometimes lose interest in that too. ]

So it was literally impossible to force my interest into something.

I only wish to make my mind interested in a task, and do the task and check the outcome. I feel the outcome will be super success.

I think more than dedication, you need interest in the first place.

Also I feel, trying to hold interest is like grabbing sand in your hand. The more tight you hold it, the more it falls off.

Example, you can see my number of posts on my blog, its a result of interest, by the way.

New album

I am hearing a lot about U2's new album " No Line On the Horizon". I have not heard any songs of the album, but heard about the album, on the radio. The Rolling Stone magazine calls the album the best in last 18 years.

My observation

My reading habit for the year 2009, seems to be going good, since I have read almost 5 books in the last 3 months. I recently was reading an autobiography. I wish not to disclose the name. To be honest, I just love AUTOBIOGRAPHIES. There are just unparalleled. I learn loads, from autobiographies of great people. So I wish to read as many as I can.

Recently I completed one such autobiography, of a very impressive personality. I enjoyed the book thoroughly no doubts about it. But it was a line, in one of the chapter, which literally puzzled me.

The author goes on to write, quoting that, he himself has an indentation towards aiming high, achieving high and being a great performer.

The only thing which came to my mind was that, is the author boasting? I always feel, its for others to judge whether a person is a high performer or not. (after reading the book)

After all, its the author's book, he can write whatever he may want. After reading the book, I hoped to get a feeling of appreciation towards the author, thinking him as a great achiever.

But in between if he tends to quote himself as a high achiever, doesn't that look a bit weird. Or may be I have not read many autobiographies. There may be other persons who would like to openly proclaim that they are high achievers.

I do not know.

Disclaimer :: This post has nothing to do with my current or previous employers.

Its not liking what you have, its wanting what you like..

I just came across this line, in one of the books, I was reading over the last weekend.
It says, [May be my wordings are not that all correct, but still]
" A reasonable man, tries to adjust himself to the world,
An unreasonable man, tries the world to adjust to himself,
The progress of world however depends on the unreasonable man."

I have nothing against this particular quote.. It just sent me thinking and thinking for an answer, which I do not have at this moment in time, not sure whether I will I have it or not.

My only doubt is, " Should a person, go on doing things which he loves, or should he do things which are presented to him in the most fabulous way ".

Assume the scenario of a person working in a company, [Just Another imaginary Company]
The person may or may not be interested in the work what he is doing.

---> Should the person continue to work for the company, with whatever tasks that have been given to him, (which he likes or dislikes), just thinking about a better position he may land in the same company after a few years / months ?

---> Should the person, quit the company and do things which really fascinate him, forgetting about the so called career which he may build up after a few years of service.

In both the cases, the person may end up on the losing side..

In the first case, he may think, I have lost all my years, doing things which I do not really like, and the so called career which I have built up does not look any more interesting.

In the second case, he may think, I have lost out on a career, and may be ended up jobless, in pursuit of things which he was really interested into.

Now where do we and how do we strike a balance, between the two.

How do we enjoy things what we are doing, and how do we do things which we really enjoy.

Should we compromise on any one of them.. Well.... I have not even a single clue...

Wondering why ???

I am kind of having a perfect weekend. Perfect weekend for me means, getting to do things which I love to do.

It includes a bit of television, whole lot of reading, time to spend with myself all alone, and a bit of blogging just to tingle some thought process in my mind, (Idle mind is devils workshop, so why let it idle??? :P)

Here I am reading 3 awesome books, simultaneously, trying to finish them as soon as possible.. I am not reading one book to completion at a time, coz I am finding it difficult, I am rather juggling between these three books at the same time, reading few pages from one book for sometime and the other and other.

If you ask me which are those three books ... They are:
> Business Maharajas
> ********************************* [Name removed due to some reasons]
> Greatness Guide 2 by Robin Sharma.

Time and again I try to analyze and re-analyze my reading pattern. I am trying to find a defect in the way I read a book so that I can correct myself, but its still elusive.

There are some books which I can finish within 3 hrs, the writing is so good, I just cruise through the book in no time.

There are some books which I start reading but 3/4 through the book, I find that, this book is not for me and totally abandon it. (Though these are very small in number, may be 1 in every 15 books I read, its still a bad sign of losing interest easily or bad selection.)

There are some books which I reading completely but not at a single stretch. ( I have no regrets about that. )

Now I am wondering why my reading speed cannot be same across all the books I read? I am still trying to find an answer to this particular question.

But I did find one clue today while I was reading the book The Greatness Guide 2. In 3 hrs of continuous reading I could only cover 68 pages (The page content was not too much though) . You may be wondering why. But I have an answer. The book is so good that, I ended up thinking and thinking. Instead of reading the book to completion, at the end of each chapter I ended up doing so called reverse engineering. I started wondering whether " Have I been in such a situation? Have I done this before". That reverse engineering went to that extent, that, I started pondering over my childhood days, days as a 4 year old may be....

After all, this is what I expect from a book, a lot to think about, a lot to ponder over and above all a lot to learn and improve upon.

At the end of this post, all I have to say is, there is no pros and cons of reading a book quickly within no time. I feel reading it slowly has its own say.

For example,

>How do you feel when you find yourself in Wonderland amidst Alice, while reading Alice in Wonderland.
>How do you feel when you recollect those precious moments in time that you have spent with loved ones while reading a book from Sudha Murthy.
>How do you feel to be in the jungle while reading the Jungle Book.
>How do you feel when you figure out the lessons learnt from mistakes you made previously, while reading a book by Robin Sharma.
>And not to forget, How do I feel, when I re-read the post I put up few months ago, about being @ Bandipur forest @ 2 am in the morning!!!!!

Just priceless. Ain't the feeling just beyond my dictionary of words of description... It is.. May be I am losing the time over here, just to feel the feeling, instead of running through the pages. ("Feel the feeling", Phrase courtesy - Arvind.)

Thats what reading some books give me or do to me.

So now its time for " Hello Kaun Pehchan Kaun " on Star One and then back to Robin's book. I have some more moments to relive... Yippy ... What a weekend...

Cheers

PS: Sorry guys the post was meant to be something and it ended up being something, coz in midway I just got a whole new idea, courtesy the super books I am reading, couldn't resist putting it here, else I may forget. So now the post is like inconclusive.

PPS: And regarding my reading pattern. Who cares or may be some other time , I am enjoying the book wholly, reading it as slowly as I can, re-reading the same thing again and again and pondering over those golden moments.....

PPPS: May be, that is why I have read the book by Robin Sharma, 10 times and I will sure read it again and again may be in multiples of 10, just to ponder over those golden moments, again and again, involving, the wonderful people and those mistakes which I have made, who / which have helped me, to be myself and tune myself into, what I am today. Miss you guys..

IT industry - Dilemma at its best..... Judgement @ its worst....

Disclaimer - Whatever I have written in this post, is completely my own individual opinion and has nothing to do with any individual, any company in particular. I have no hatred against anybody as such. If the reader finds some co-incidences relating to a particular individual or a company I can only say its fictitious. I do not want to put even myself as the actor in the scene.

So please keep in mind this post is just an elaboration of a thought which struck me in the middle of the night, when I was finding sleep hard to come by, since I had slight fever and a sore stomach, acidity or gas, I do not know.

The title of this post may add a little bit to the reader's thought process. But I am sorry this is the only title which I can think at this moment of time. Pls excuse if I am wrong...

Introduction to characters -

X -

This is the imaginary IT company in picture in the post.

PersonA -

He is a software engineer by profession, who is relatively new to the IT company. Joined less than a year ago. He earns his bread by coding and introducing new bugs (of course :P).

PersonB -

He is a manager by profession. He is a veteran in this Imaginary Company. He earns his bread by managing people, projects. (There may be an additional source of income which you will come to know later in the post.)

PersonC -

He is a system administrator by profession. He is also quite new to the imaginary IT company. He earns his bread by managing the computers in the Imaginary IT Company.

End of introduction -

Typical day to day routine of PersonA and PersonB

PersonA - codes and debugs for most part of the day. He has some songs to keep him company, just to make his coding experience a better one. He listens to songs mostly through online streaming. There are some sites available which provide the user to listen to songs online.

PersonB - Manages people and projects, gives updates to the management, makes top notch decisions about the project / projects. He is an active investor in stock markets, investing and selling on a regular basis. Even though he might not be investing, he might be actively monitoring the markets, BSE/NSE, whatever. Here comes the additional source of income. He is trying also to make a fortune out of stocks and shares.

**********************************************************************

On one fine day PersonC approaches PersonA.

PersonC: "I would like to seize your desktop."

PersonA: "Could I know the reason?".

PersonC: " For listening to songs through streaming, which is not allowed".

PersonA: " But the mp3 website is not blocked. Hence I thought it to be valid".

PersonC: "No Sir, it takes most of the bandwidth, so its not allowed".

PersonA: " So what is the next course of action ".

PersonC: " Immediate meeting with your manager, followed by an integrity + ethics training + test".

[ PersonA in his mind : "Now what ... I think I should fall on his(managers) feet for this one .. err??". ]

***************************************************************************

Sitting few rows to the side of him is this particular manager who is actively monitoring the stock market, investing money doing everything which is not allowed, but still at the end of the day, its the coder who gets screwed.

[Ok Ok, you may be wondering, whether listening to mp3 while working is ethical or not. I feel its unethical, or may be I am trying to make excuses via this post, I accept that, but the fact is why only few people hog the limelight for wrong reasons. Why do some people just get away or does every organization encourage to have an additional source of income via share trading?. I do not know, but inequality just hurts..]

There might be loads of people in a company who are investing and selling / buying shares, but ... you are in trouble only because of the bandwidth issue. May be the bandwidth occupies higher position than the Ethics , Conflict of Interest and Integrity or may be there is another twist.

I want to know what is the reason.

> Does the person s loyalty to the organization come into picture. If a person is in a organization for 10+ years does it mean he can attend conference calls on his speaker phone from his place.. whilst disturbing others (OF COURSE YOU DO Mr).

> I feel its the person who at the leaf node suffers whatever may be the case. I sincerely feel it. In most cases such people are relatively new to the organization and are highly vulnerable.

POST ENDS HERE ***************************************8

I have nothing against any person in this world. As I have already mentioned, this post is nothing but imaginary. If you strongly feel you as a person has been depicted in this particular post, please leave a comment, I would either remove the post or edit it as per your suggestion.

Talking behind a person's back or straight on the face ???

I was watching Jab We Met with my relatives over the last weekend. I ve seen the movie 9 times but still cannot get enough of it.

During the latter half of the movie, one can see, in the Shimla hotel, Kareena shouts at Anshuman, using a foul language. Well foul language may come second in this particular context. I want to focus more on the aspect of taking out your anger on a particular person.

You can also observe, Kareena feels a little bit better after she finishes shouting at Anshuman.

I have seen orkut profiles of many people, they say, they hate people who speak behind their back.

I have so many observations against such messages:

> Firstly if a person is humble, down to earth, unbiased, I bet, no one will talk behind his back. If a person thinks people can speak behind his back, he must be getting it wrong somewhere or the other. Right?

> Secondly, as you can see from the movie, Jab We Met, if speaking behind back (atleast not on the face) can make you a bit relieved off tension/headache, what is stopping you then?

Part 2 of the post...

In this part of the post I just try to give a thought whether to speak behind the back of a person, or straight on his face..

I think both the sides are equally balanced.

You speak straight on the face or speak behind the back, you end up being a loser on either case.

Firstly, if you speak straight on the face, you may end up losing your job (at the max).

If the person, is doing wrong and you remain silent and speak behind the person's back, you may end up being a silent spectator and may even get screwed up once that guy gets noticed.

Whatever may be the case, just make sure, your head is free from such silly stuffs..

And regarding Jab We Met, the movie rocks !!!!

Conclusion::: In a corporate world, if you want to survive, then I feel, keeping mum is a better option.

I love TWITTER...

I think I just love twitter. There is no doubt in that. As I was glancing through many blogs over the internet, over the past few months, I noticed many bloggers had a link saying " follow me on twitter" in their respective blogs.

I generally used to open those twitter pages and in my first few instances I could not make out what TWITTER was all about. You may call me a dumbo. But the fact is I was more interested in the bigger blog posts than the few character twitter updates.

But somehow all of a sudden, a thought struck my mind, why not me also on twitter. Frankly speaking, TWITTER is just awesome.

Sometimes random thoughts flash across your mind. You may not be able to blog them, as you may find them silly or you may not find suitable title for them, or may even forget them. There comes TWITTER into picture.

This whole new thing of microblogging has just left me fascinated. Let me see, how I keep posting on the blog as well as TWITTER.

From now on you can follow me on twitter at :::

PS:: Twitter Rocks...

Upset with myself

Sometimes in life, you feel as though you are caught in the middle of nowhere. I was in one such situation over the past weekend. The house warming function at my place was organized for 14 Feb and 15 Feb. So you can expect a lots of preparation to go into that.

In the first place, it is my parents who have taken so much of tension and headache to construct the house, I thought let me atleast do a bit for the housewarming function. But things did not go my way.

I am very happy and sad at the same time.

I am happy firstly because I got leave on 14 Feb and 15 Feb which happened to be Saturday and Sunday, secondly the function went well, really well, by the grace of god. I met loads of relatives who turned up to the function,. I thank all of them, coz it was just through the telephone that my parents had invited them.

I am sad because, I went to the office till 13 Feb, could not apply for leave even a single working day. So all the preparation to the function had to be done by my parents. And that is something which I am not able to digest.

I can recollect the song by John Mayer - No Such Thing where in he sings

" And all of our parents
They're getting older
I wonder if they've wished for anything better " ..........

I may have helped my parents with some monetary stuffs, but I think I should have done better, worked a little harder at office and taken a leave well in advance. I wish such a thing does not happen in future

By god's grace everything went very well.. Thanks God.

Are you busy @ work ,, or are you pretending... ???

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disclaimer ::: The content written in this post are not meant to contradict any person or individual. The person in picture is none other than me. I have no hard or harsh feelings against any particular individual, (IT Guy or non IT Guy to be more specific). All the views expressed here are from my point of view.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Frankly speaking, as a programmer, I spend almost 9 hrs in front of the computer @ my workplace. I still have one question which haunts me.

" If a software engineer says he is busy, I wonder, whether
> is he really busy or
> is he just pretending to avoid people
> or may be he's just passing time as he may be on bench (no assignments)" .

Its very difficult for me to have a convincing answer for this question, frankly speaking, I do not have answer, nor want an answer, coz, I myself have been in one of the three situations one or many times.

But let's take the a non software engineer's point of view.

Assume if I was a mechanic, if I would be repairing cars (which I would love to have done if not IT), and if I say I am busy, people around me could clearly make out that I am busy, coz I am performing some mechanical task.

But consider me as a software engineer now. If a person unaware of software / IT, asks me, are you busy and I stay " yes ", he believes it.

I am not tightening any screws but at the same time I may not be doing anything productive as well. But how does the poor chap come to know (that I am actually not busy). What if another software engineer asks me the same question without peeping into the monitor or what if I do not lift my head for 8 hrs and keep on typing something ?

People really think I am totally busy, with a donkey's workload.

But how do they know what the truth is, I may be
> Playing Solitaire
> Investing in shares via online trading / telephone trading.
> Chatting with friends over a messenger.
> Checking / Forwarding personal mails.
> Listening to songs (this one is visible.. )
> Browsing the internet for no reasons.
> .. and many more.

What made me write this post ?? No idea..
But I just wanted to bring out the IT guy's idea of being busy when seen through the eyes of a non IT guy.
[Finally a non IT guy like a electrical maintenance guy would always feel I am busy, since I am peeping into my monitor and typing or reading something. I wish they too could find out how busy we actually are.]

PS:: IT Guy tells another IT Guy " I am busy, with work / in a meeting " .. I would appreciate if you could peep into the monitor and look as to what he is busy with or ask for MOM (Minutes of Meeting).

The new ad on television

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disclaimer ::: The contents of this post are not meant to contradict any advertisement / individual. Its just a take from my point of view. It is not meant, to prove out a point, esp related to the advertisement. All the views expressed over here are purely my opinion and from my standpoint and nothing to do with anyone else.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am currently watching bits and pieces of the ongoing cricket matches between India and Sri Lanka. I was kind of attracted by a new ad shown on the television. It was the new Tata Safari ad - Reclaim your life.

Immediately one thing that came to my mind is - one of my colleague in my previous workplaces used to say " Dont burn yourself out by working too much, try to freak out more.. "

I felt this ad reflected or re-iterated the same thing..

I also immediately felt, I also need to reclaim my life. (Though I am relatively new to software industry close to 4 yrs now). I also got a thought, how about reclaiming my life, the way, depicted in the new Tata Safari ad.

Then there was an abrupt end to my thought process.

Could you guess why?

Forget owning a Tata Safari, I do not have money even to pay for its road tax + insurance.
I have to burn myself out may be for some 2-3 years in a row, save money, then think of owning one vehicle like that.

So the better option (standing in my shoes) is ....

1. Forget about the new ad... As it does not make any sense to me.
2. Do not burn yourself out, and then think of reclaiming my life.
3. Try to reclaim your life. (I insist). but may be a second hand Maruti 800 is a better option (err??)

PS:: I have one doubt -> The ad does not target people like me... or does it ???

PPS::: Going by the salary we get, with the job security in mind, I think owning a Tata Safari
will take me another good 7 - 8 years.. May be the ad is targetted at people of those age group, or may be the richer folks .. what say ???

PPPS :::: Can you guys check out the post time??

Check the meaning ........ OR .... Check the meeting.......

Few years before, there was a song which I loved. The song was " Check the meaning " by a band called " The Verve ". Awesome song indeed. A perfection in itself... But what s the song got to do with this post..

Here s the story...

Well, today I was in a scenario where in, I was caught actually in a wrong mood, wrong foot, wrong tone [that is what my team mates / colleagues said].

I was actually on my own, blabbering stuffs (in a meeting) , which I was not sure about, expecting something which would actually may or may not happen. In other words, I did not check the meaning before making sentences. What was the outcome ??

The outcome was that the meeting was infact nothing, as the direction of the meeting went wayward. And many of my friends were quite unpleased with the turn of events. Infact, they were strongly opposing my point of view. Morever they were not impressed, coz of the time wasted by making my bullshit point of view clear...

Actually, once in a while, I do really lose control of what I am speaking and become very demanding.. Saying "I want this, I want that"... But I often forget the point that, the world is really really not the way I want. I need to behave in the way the world is and will be.

Going ahead I need to make sure, I need to be very careful about meetings. One wrong line or one wrong quote, the whole focus drifts, turning the outcome of the meeting to be inconclusive or rather leaving many attendants angry.

Somewhere I read that 90% of all the meeting are just waste of time. After attending many meetings over a period of many years, I could well agree with the above mentioned thing.

What say

Postcards from Andaman....

Dont ask me the source of the photos, but I can surely tell, I do own them.. so no issues over here...

I was kind of moved when I saw these pics of the cellular jail. Such a harsh treatment meted out to the freedom fighters...

Here s a big salute going out to all those people who have participated in the freedom struggle and who have made me enjoy independence.

Every day of my 25 years of existence, is because of you guys. Hats off...

TZP , SDM

When the movie Slum Dog Millionaire bagged so many awards, I was a kind of a happy man.. Wow what a movie.. I was indeed exclaiming that even without watching the movie.

Next day I came to know that, Taare Zameen Par, had run out of Oscar Contention. I was kind of low.

I thought TZP was a superb movie and deserved an Oscar.

I was just wondering how did SDM bag awards, while TZP was not even in contention.

> Was it because of the director / producer.
> Was it because of the fact that it showed India on the backfoot, instead of a progressed well developed nation. (remember the dialogue in Namastey London, " India , a land of snake charmers ")

No clues as of now..

Daily Soaps .... A cause of sever headache

Everyday my parents watch 2 serials from 8 30 pm to 9 30 pm.

I tend to keep a low profile during this one hour of the day, trying to retire in my room or go to the terrace or whatever, because I want to avoid, watching or even catching a glimpse of those serials.

My only cause of concern is, why to give a thought of the troubles faced by unreal characters?

I was watching ["Name of serial removed "] one day and was shocked at the seris of co-incidences happening. After many episodes, one lady appears as the wife of a person, all of a sudden , who also turns out to be the manager of the lady whose her husband has a crush on.

My gosh, so many co-incidences?? To be honest first time I am seeing so many co-incidences, never mind, its fiction after all....

The two serials which I adore as of now are,

" Hello Kaun Pehchaan Kaun "
" MTV Roadies "

New Show on Radio Indigo....

Its 2 weeks since, a new show has been launched on Radio Indigo.

I am waiting to listen to it, right from the word go, but have not been able to, courtesy my laziness, my schedule, my forgetfulness, you name it, you have it.

But what is so special about this show???

1. Its a retro show, (classic rock + some legends + some trivia)

2. Hosted by (Guess the RJ) , (sounds familiar name is it?)

I was a huge fan of this particular RJ during my engineering days, way back in 2002, 2003. I enjoyed " The Late Show " weekdays night 10pm - 12 pm and " The Retro Show " Sundays 7pm - 9pm.

But hoping not to miss this Sunday, let me see. The show is " PlayBack " Sunday morning 9am to 12 pm...

After a break....

Hey there .... here I am ... blogging after a lil long time..

I was facing some internet problem at home, so could not login since almost 5 days..

I have loads of things to write about, not sure where to begin from.... Few of them include...

> What I did not understand about Slum Dog Millionare.

> Daily soaps on NDTV Imagine (Mein Teri Parchayee Hoon and Radha Ki Betiyaan).

> My new orkut testimonial.

> New show on Radio Indigo...

I can also write about loads of things, which I am expecting to happen in the near future. But let it happen... So let me write about the above mentioned things in subsequent posts...

New theme for 2009

Going into 2009, I thought let me put a new theme, so finally finalized a theme, which included white color.

Nothing particular about choosing white, just hoping to purify my thoughts and throw away any negativity which resides within me.

I think, the picture of Mahatma Gandhi on a white background looks amazingly supercool.
[Gosh, I could have put in white a little before, never mind, better late than later ]

Also forgot to write much in the last weeks of 2008. I have found a show on TV very interesting, its MTV roadies, audition. Some cool questions, some supercool interviewers. I wish not to view Roadies, but the auditions look pretty cool.

I also happened to watch MTV Vaults on VH1, which featured U2 - MTV Vaults. I just love U2, their music and any program on or about U2, just peps me up.

I can say one thing for sure, I have known U2 all my life, and I just love their music.

Pep me up !!!

One of my goals for the year 2009, is to read more and more books. So I started to re-read a book which I had last read in 2005, when I had joined my first company.

The book is "Tough times never last, tough people do". As I began to read the book, I just found a new punch line, which I thought of pinning down in my blog title, [which infact I did].

I can also say, going into the new year, I found that line too inspiring, to keep on blogging more and more.

So here goes the line " If you dont have any advice to give, share your own story".

Then I thought, here I am sharing my own story . [Not everything, but atleast some and one more thing, I do not intend to do this for the sake of audience. Its for my sole purpose. To turn the focus light more towards myself.]

Let me hope I will write more than what I did in 2008.

#1 for 2009

Here s my first post for the year 2009.

Firstly I have to thank none other than god for keeping me alive and kicking .

Second thing is I too have some things which I would like to do in the year 2009.

Awesome song - Inspirational or Mushy ????

Off late, I have been listening to a song again and again. I am trying to figure out what the song has to say. But I haven't yet. Again its a classic of the 1980's. The song is " You can do magic " by a band called "America". They performed live in Bangalore, sometime in Dec 2007.

Some backdrop ::: [ I am a huge fan of this song, thinking it is a very inspirational song. People always criticize me for being a fan of western music, esp rock. They indirectly ask me " Are u angrez key aulaad?". (Well whatever, who cares, btw?). But the truth is, whenever I listen to some super cool english songs, they just pep me up, to do better, to go an extra mile. ]

When I first listened to the song, I felt it is a inspirational song, but when I checked out the lyrics, I found a mushy edge to it as well. Whatever may be the case, it occupies #3 position in my all time favorite list of inspirational songs.

Well, if you want to know, which songs top the list of my all time favorite inspirational songs ...... here it goes...

#1 and #2 no doubt belongs to U2.

#1 Stuck in a moment - U2
#2 Walk On. - U2
#3 You can do magic. - America
#4 Welcome to wherever you are - Bon Jovi

Dollar Bahu

One of my TODO s for the year 2009 include read as many books as possible. Technical books, I do read, but I am especially particular about fiction, autobiography, travelogues and books like these.

I think during the year 2008, I started to read a lot of unwanted books (mostly non technical). In the middle or the last part, of some of the books , I totally lost interest in the book. I do not know why. But somehow, it all went wayward.

Now in the last month of the year, I thought let me read a bit more. And all of a sudden I found two new books within my reach.

They were.
1. Dollar Bahu by Sudha Murthy
2. Nandan Nilekani 's book

I thought, lemme read one first. So went ahead and read Dollar Bahu.

Now I am thinking of reading one more book before 2009. Let me see, how it goes.

My new orkut testimonial

Incidentally, I happened to receive a new testimonial. It was from my honeywell friend/colleague, Muthukumaran.

I had written a testimonial for him around 4 months back. One of my friends who visited his profile immediately asked, is it barter system? I really do not think so. But it is to the outside world. What can I do?

So the testimonial had an important point which I would like to highlight of blog about. My friend says, " I have a good sense of humor ". I agree with it, but at the same time I also disagree with it.

How?

I have a good sense of humor, only when my going is good. When my going gets tough, my sense of humor just vanishes. I tend to lose patience / temper, if not often, but atleast sometimes atleast. [Gimme a break guys, I am a human after all, I tend to make mistakes, lose patience. Its all in the game].

After reading the book by Robin Sharma 9 times, I still could not come up with a way where in I could exhibit, " Grace Under Pressure ". Forget, exhibiting " Humor under Pressure". Its totally difficult. The guy who does it is a " REAL DUDE ".

One of my key goals in the year 2009 would be to improve myself on this whole issue. I do tend to lose humor, patience, under pressure. I wish I could handle pressure in a better way. So that I can get more out of that situation as well.

PS: Why am I writing about this topic is, I recently lost patience, and it took me a little while to be back, doing what I love to do the most.

100th post for the year 2008

Can't imagine about this one.. 100 posts for the year 2008.. In the month of December.. I openly admit 2008 has just gone by. God has been graceful in giving me loads of things. But I have not been up to the mark, when it comes to growing with age. It is something which I will take up seriously in the new year.

But 100 posts, when I look back, how on earth did I manage to write about 100 bakwaas topics. [I feel some of them are repeated , may be 5-6]. But overall nice feat... Pat on my back..

I had many takeaways' this year ...

--> cousin's marriage, met loads(mark my words) , loads of relatives.
--> new company, new colleagues.
--> different schedule altogether.(less travelling)
--> continued going to the gym for most part of the year.
--> went on a trip with my cousins to Ooty, which was the best of them all.
--> Read lots of books ( may be 12-15 overall, small in number, apart from technical ones)
--> Wrote loads of code in 2008.
--> Tried to learn lots of things in the last quarter of 2008. (have infact overburdened myself).
--> Got a little bit more health concious.
--> Kept blogging btw...
--> Found solace in loads of inspirational books and writing..
--> Last but not the least, laughed my heart out, many a number of times, more, than in 2007.

I have a list of things which I could not do or did moderately.. In other words.. somethings which I regret.

--> Not regularly listening to the radio. Lesser radio play during 2008.
--> Could not meet Nitin or Kranti many a times during the year 2008, for whatever may be the reasons.
--> Less books read... I need to read more..

I would like to thank god, for keeping me alive and kicking all through the year 2008.

One more thing worth mentioning:::
My first post for the year 2008 was a song by Simply Red::::

You make me feel brand new... Wow.. I dint notice till today. What an amazing song it is.
What a way to begin a new year blogging calendar.. Whacko !!!

~~ Cheers

Thank you for the music

I was listening to a song by ABBA today. ABBA happens to be one of my all time favorite bands. I think its a 4 piece outfit. I have grown listening to ABBA. Even as a child who dint know English correctly, I used to sing " Fernando ". (Aint that awesome).

I thought let me put a lyrics of a song which is so meaningful and also thanks something in the most beautiful way. I think this song is more than 24 yrs old.

The song is " Thank you for the music". The lyrics goes... [Incomplete though]

Im nothing special, in fact Im a bit of a bore
If I tell a joke, youve probably heard it before
But I have a talent, a wonderful thing
cause everyone listens when I start to sing
Im so grateful and proud
All I want is to sing it out loud

So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs Im singing
Thanks for all the joy theyre bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me

Songs, Music does bring a lot of joy to me, absolutely true. ABBA songs, all I can say is it just reminds me of the wonderful 80's. Aaaah.. Its so beautiful... (80's and my childhood days)

~~~~Cheers
Surprise Surprise; this december
Two days ago, I received a official mail saying, a new year gift is waiting for all the employees of the organization. And this would be a shirt (in case of gents).
So this is the December surprise. Not sure whether I am happy or not, I need to figure that out..
~~~ Cheers

Unfortunate incident

It just happened around a week back and I came to know about it today. Incidentally there was a snake bite, which happened close to my house, (same road I feel) around 8pm in the night.

Not sure venomous or non venomous, but one thing's for sure. There s this new apparent threat while walking in the dark. And considering power cuts do tend to happen, I better keep both my eyes open.

November Rain

Not much blogging in the month of November.

Well...literally littered around for the whole month reading a single book - Straight from the Gut, by Jack and what I can say is, I cant remember or recollect so many facts / figures / dates / people / companies that the book churns out. Its been difficult to digest. Thats the truth.

Not sure which book I will read next.

Well... I always admire the group pravsworld for their amazing work. They just pep me up everytime, with their wonderful inspirational emails.

Got this one a day before. I kept on wondering whether to agree with this or not.

" People know you by what you do".. I just kept on thinking..

Let me interpret this from professional perspective (by means of work/job).

If I lose my job, how will people know me?

I do not know the answer.. I feel, if I lose my job and incapable to find another job, I think most people would distance away from me. The only 2 places where I would be welcomed would be :
1. House.
2. Gym.

I think @ these two places people know me not by what I do.. Yes. At gym, no one knows whats my profession is (apart from the trainer)...

By the way let me stop being so negative and inconclusive about job security.. Its not gonna take me anywhere after all... Apart from this nothing much to post about...

Cheers...

Arvind's wedding...

On Nov 10 , 2008, I had been to Arvind's wedding. The wedding was rocking.. Arvind s a lucky guy. Here 's wishing him all the best..

The wedding was the prime thing. But apart from that, I did meet a lot of my Wipro and Target friends. The list was huge. 20 odd guys with whom I had worked with, meeting them after 7 or 8 odd months was kind of a good feeling.

Rare are such occasions.. But I was lucky to spot one of them and cash in.. Let me post a pic of me over there, in the coming days..

Cheers..

I am a relieved man today..

I made a comeback @ the gym today, almost a month after I had left going to the gym owing to some stupid reasons. Due to the power cuts, now I have to time my entry and exit to the gym properly.

Whatever may be the case, I can say, a donkey (issue) is off my back.. [Weird way of putting it.]

Whats so special about today? Generally I do plan such comebacks esp on Saturday. I do owe a lot, to Lord Shani, so thought Saturday is the best day.

Ahhhh... B'day bash @ workplace

It happened so, I celebrated my 25 yrs of existence, sometime during last month end. Generally I used to keep a low profile about my birthday, if not my age, at almost all my workplaces (4 workplaces to be more precise).

But for the last 3 years not many people knew when's my birthday. But this time @ Honeywell, the lid just blew off. Yes. On my birthday, in fact my name was put up on the display board at the reception. So this had to happen. I ended up cutting a cake.

Yes, I did cut a cake today, 4 November, but more than cutting the cake and eating it, I enjoyed something more, which happened in one of our meeting rooms. I was not the only one about to cut the cake, but Devender also. But the occasion/session had a special twist.

Mr Aneesh, my team member came up with the idea of writing Happy Birthday on the glass board in one of the meeting rooms. Along with it he sketched my friend and me. Me with my trademark mustache and hairdo.

It did not stop there, from there on he went ahead to sketch different stuffs which were characteristic of that person. Finally every other person in the meeting room, started drawing caricatures on the board. And also added a baseline / punchline to each caricature..
[ Mine - the punchline read - " I want to go home ". Along with it there was another pic which depicted a bed. It had a punchline " Relaxation Room "].

Awesome, sometimes you may be at the recieving end of a comedy/ gimmick, but it indeed feels great. [To know what other people really think of you].

It was just the right dose of fun. I will surely put up few pics of it, once I go to the office tomorrow.

PS ::: Thank you guys, it indeed was, very very very special...
PPS:: Thanks god, for keeping me alive and kicking for 25 years, not sure how many b'days will i celebrate in future... (keeping my fingers crossed.)

I am really bad at something.....

Its true.. I am really bad at something, which is an integral part of my day to day routine. That thing is " Googling ". Yes using search engine is an art in itself. Like the art of bike maintenance.

I am bad at both infact. I feel in todays world, a search engine can add lot of values to a programmer . Some of the stuff which have not been covered out in some of the best selling titles can be unearthed using a search engine.

I am really in a state of shock. I am unable to use google as a precision instrument in finding answers. Well, I am lucky, @ honeywell atleast, I have Mr Muthu who comes to my rescue time and again, showing the world or in fact me at least, " The Way to Google".

Yes googling for answers is an art in itself. Some people end up doing research on using Google, infact I am bad at it. I openly admit it. I have no clues how to better myself at it (as of now). But with little guidance from Muthu and a little Hands On, I feel I can better myself at it by early 2009. Let me see.

Conclusion::: What I can say is, " A person well versed with using a search engine, can see a solution to a problem and can bail himself out, when most others hang up their boots."

There are always two sides of the story. What Muthu has to say is " You better appreciate and use others code, or better get that thing ready in no time ( In other words, get expertise at it)."
That really sums it up. Its up to you to decide !!!

Found solace in a new book...

I turned pro in 2005 and ever since then I end up cribbing over and over again. Infact this cribbing about monetary and other issues has taken me to 3 different workplaces in less than 3 of turning a pro.

Looking at this, once my parents told me, " You are unfit for any industry, where ever you go you feel dissatisfied, about one thing or the other ".

This thing was hard to digest. The impact of this dialog haunts my mind even to this day and to be honest haunts my resume as well.

I am now reading the autobiography of Jack Welch, so kinda, found a solace in the book. The book churns up some great insights into GE in the 70's and 80's. ( may be even 90's I ve not read it completely as of now.. My Bad)

Conclusion : I now feel cribbing is not bad afterall.

Does the conclusion justify the post ??? : You have to read the book for yourself and find out how it justifies or coincides...

PS::: I forgot to mention a line which I read in FountainHead -> " Man's ego is the fountain head of human progress ". As of now I am not getting any clues , regarding how to infuse this great line into this post or into a new post. I will do that, may be someday later. Thanks Abhijit for reminding me...

My Lil Poem

Incidentally I happened to chat with one of my friends on GTALK. It was kind of boring chat session. I used to get the reply from that person a bit late, infact very very late.

So this is the small poem which I said to that person..

" U reply so late
i just cant wait
i feel like a bait
tats not my trait ".

I hope I get a reply soon henceforth from the other side..

My new acquisition...

Its been a rocking Sunday. I was upto a lot of things today. I did acquire something new. Yes, it is a 2X2 soft board. I always wanted to have a softboard in my room, may be since ages. So since these days, I was planning to have one in my about to be completed study room, I just went to one stationery store.

To my surprise he did have 2 flavors, 2X2 and a 3X3 one. I wanted to go for 3X3 piece. Each feet cost me Rs 75. But the 3X3 piece was kind a huuuuge one.. I thought I would buy it for my study room atop. For my current room, I just got a 2X2 one. Its about Rs 300.

Awesome. I am excited. Now its time to put into practice, some of the stuff which I read or will read from the book " Getting Things Done " by David Allen.

Also forgot to mention in my list of incompleted books. It also includes " GTD" by David Allen.

Cheers,
